Five types of Animated videos you should know in 2022

So you have decided to create some video content for your brand and started exploring various ways to present your content. The video content landscape has a plethora of options available from live-action, animation, and explainer videos, to virtual reality videos. But, which one do you use and when?

Choosing the right creative and visual treatment has a significant impact on how engaged your video will be. Animated videos are a great choice if you are looking for a minimal, clean, yet fun video. They are also great if you are looking to explain a use case or a product explainer video. However, it is a common misconception that all animation videos are same. They are not. There are at least 5 different types of animated videos that can tried out. Each one is used in different scenarios. Here are the five types of animated content you should know about in 2022.

Whiteboard videos

These are commonly used in the medical and tech industries to explain complex information or concepts. They are highly engaging as there is a lot of action in trying to convey the message. They are also visually minimal and can be easily tailored to your branding. Research also suggests that these videos have a 15% higher level of engagement than regular live action videos. These videos usually require a script with high level of detail as the animations largely rely on storytelling.

2D & 3D Animation videos (character based)

Many beginners may not be able to spot the difference between 2D Animation and 3D Animation videos. But there are a lot of variations between the two from making them to how they look and the cost to make them. The primary difference between the two is how the characters are created and look. In 2D animation, all features of a character are not present at all times. To put it in simpler terms, only what is seen on the screen is created and the rest is not needed. This makes it simpler to create 2D videos. However, the complication is that if a movement or change in angle is needed, the whole character needs to be recreated. 3D Animation has an advantage here. The characters are created with all the parts and are present at all times. It is recommended to go for 3D animation only if you are looking for high-end production with big budgets.

If you’re not already familiar with the basics of animation, here are five easy steps to get your animated video made:

  1. Create a script and storyboard
  2. Find the right voice actors (and maybe even record yourself)
  3. Create characters and backgrounds
  4. Shoot the footage (if necessary)
  5. Edit and add music
